The observance of
women's month kicked off during the 1st Monday program hosted by the GAD
Focal Point System and the Planning and Management Division on March 5, 2007. This was highlighted by an
income generating lecture on hog raising coordinated with the Department
of Agriculture - Albay Provincial Office. On March 7, 2007,
a Holy Mass was celebrated at the DENR Regional Office Lobby.
Supplemental livelihood options were afforded by DOST V during the monday program hosted by the Lands Management Division on March 19. Typhoon Reming victims who were relocated by the city government of Legazpi in Barangay Taysan Resettlement Center were given a lecture/demo on proper solid waste disposal and recycling by EMB staff member. Two hundred pieces gmelina, narra and mahogany seedlings were distributed along with grocery item gift packs. Libreng patubig was provided through the efforts of
MGB personnel who monitor the water
purification system installed at the Taysan Resettlement Site. The water
source is at a depth of about 60 ft and an artesian well. Average capacity
of the well is less than 7 liters per minute.
The system was able to provide 400 liters of water to residents of the
Taysan Ressetlement Center for a day. The system
was installed for a period of two months and was eventually To highlight the Women's Month Celebration and to recognize the contribution of women in DENR, OIC RED Reynulfo A. Juan encouraged all RTDs to designate women officers as OIC in their absence starting with himself. In the Office of the RED, Regional GAD Focal Chair Elizabeth Rose G. Padilla was designated in his absence. The RTDs for Forestry, Lands, PAWCZMS and ERDS designated as OIC in their absence, Forester Concepcion Cu. Mendoza, Atty. Agnes B. Almonte, Sr. EMS Myrna G. Baylon and Chief Science Research Specialist Lida C. Borboan respectively. A potting holiday in March 16 at the DENR Regional Nursery in Legazpi
was spearheaded and involved employees of all DENR services to experience
and learn the skills of potting. Fifty one (51) men and 125 women
successfully potted a total of 13,697 bags during the day,

The Lakbay Kabuhayan highlighted the observance of GAD month. Some forty two representatives of various divisions went to the Camarines Province for an on-site lecture in successful small/medium business enterprises organized by the Metro Public Employment Service Office (PESO) through its Women's Entrepreneur for Development and Advancment Association (WEDA). Moreover, butterfly farming was seen a promising venture during the visit at
Alfie's Butterfly Farm in San Isidro, Iriga City. Accordingly, an entrepreneur
equipped with appropriate training and skills may start with a minimal
capital of Bird watching at the wetlands of Cabusao, Camarines Sur was one exciting occasion especially for first-timers. The 20-hectare wetland area planted to mangrove species like bakauan, bungalon, buta-buta, etc. is situated in Barangays Biong and Pandan protected by PAWSCZMS. Waterfowls from North Asia like herons, egrets, shorebirds, waders (that are generally migratory birds) are visible in the area from the months of October to mid April. |
