60 LGUs adopt PRS92 mojons in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY - Sixty local government units (LGUs) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Bicol adopting geodetic control points (mojons) established in their respective area under the Philippine Reference System of 1992 (PRS92).

The adopting LGUs are the municipalities of Labo, San Lorenzo Ruiz, Daet, Talisay, Vinzons, Basud, Capalonga, Sta. Elena, Mercedes, Paracale and Jose Panganiban, Camarines Norte; San Fernando, Milaor, Calabanga, Ocampo, Pili, Del Gallego, Balatan, Pasacao, Pamplona, San Jose, Magarao, Tigaon, Sipocot, Cabusao, Libmanan, Lupi and Ragay in Camarines Sur. (The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur under Gov. LRay Raymund Villafuerte had also signed a MOA adopting mojons within the Provincial Capitol Grounds in the Capital town of Pili).

Other mojon adoptors are the LGUs of Virac, Baras, San Miguel, San Andres, Bato, Pandan, Panganiban, Bagamanoc, Viga, Caramoran and Gigmoto in Catanduanes; Tabaco City, Ligao City, Sto. Domingo, Oas, Malinao, Pioduran, Libon and Polangui in Albay; and Castilla, Juban, Sorsogon City, Bulan, Irosin, Casiguran, Barcelona, Sta. Magdalena, Donsol, Magallanes, Pilar and Bulusan in Sorsogon.

As of this writing, the PENR Office in Masbate under PENR Officer Luis Loyola is intensifying its campaign on PRS92 "Adopt-A-Mojon" program by coordinating and meeting with the LGUs in mainland Masbate.

The putting up of PRS92 mojons in Masbate Province started only in June this year. And so far, at least 119 geodetic control points have been established in different areas of mainland Masbate, according to Engr. Rudy de la Cruz, chief of the regional Field Network Survey Party (FNSP) under the Lands Management Service. FSNP teams will also undertake the same activity in the two islands (Burias and Ticao ) in the province.

PENRO Masbate expects to forge MOAs with seven LGUs and targets 105 4th Order mojons for adoption this year.

Related to this, DENR Regional Executive Director Joselin Marcus Fragada recently directed all PENROs to forge agreements not only with LGUs but also with heads of schools, barangay captains and church officials, where the mojons are installed.

The PRS92 is the standard reference system for 211 surveys and maps in the country as mandated by Executive Order No. 45, series of 1993.

The PRS92 "Adopt-A-Mojon" program aims to enlist the participation of LGUs, peoples' organizations, and the general public in the establishment preservation of PRS92 geodetic control points. (ASA)
